About Anthony "Tony" Fauci

As director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984, Tony Fauci has overseen an extensive research portfolio for the last three decades, while also directing a large HIV/AIDS laboratory and caring for patients. He is a key advisor to the White House and Department of Health and Human Services on global AIDS issues, and on preparedness against emerging infectious disease threats. Tony has made seminal contributions to HIV research, and was one of the principal architects of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which is responsible for saving millions of lives and for which he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He serves on the editorial boards of many scientific journals; as an editor of Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine; and as author, coauthor, or editor of more than 1,270 scientific publications.
